The Great Noise Ensemble, a group specializing in the performance of contemporary concert music founded and directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Armando Bayolo was recently nominated as "Best New Artist of the Year" by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA).

WAMA "is an umbrella organization of Washington (D.C.) area musicians, concert promoters, lawyers, recording engineers, managers, graphic artists and related businesses working together to address areas of common concern." The "Wammies" are awarded by the organization yearly in various categories such as "song of the year," "artist of the year" and "best new artist of the year" on a yearly basis in a variety of genres including, among others, a capella, blues/traditional, country, modern rock, Latin, electronica and classical. The Great Noise Ensemble, which is in its second season, was the only classical ensemble nominated in the Best New Artist category in 2006.
