Author Stephen Kuusisto will read from his recent work on Thursday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn. Kuusisto is a spokesperson for Guiding Eyes for the Blind and teaches creative writing at Ohio State University.  His best-selling memoir, Planet of the Blind, was named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times, and his essays and poems have appeared in Harper's, The New York Times Magazine, Poetry, and Seneca Review.

Kuusisto is a frequent commentator on National Public Radio and lectures widely on disability and public policy. His current project, a memoir titled The Art of Listening (forthcoming from W.W. Norton in 2005), examines how he as a poet experiences the world through sound.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Department of English, the Office of the President, the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, the Office of the Dean of Students, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Kirkland Endowment, the Program in Education Studies and Student Government.
