The Great Noise Ensemble, a group focusing on the performance of contemporary classical music founded and directed by Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Armando Bayolo, has been named Best Chamber Ensemble of 2007 by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA).

The "WAMMIES" are awarded each year by WAMA to individual musicians and music organizations active in the District of Columbia's music scene. The Great Noise Ensemble was nominated as best new artists of the year in 2006, the only classical group in that category. Their Best Chamber Ensemble "WAMMIE," awarded in February, 2008, for work during the 2007-08 season, is the group's first win.

WAMA "is a non-profit tax exempt organization of music industry professionals committed to raising the profile of the (Washington, D.C.) region's diverse music community. WAMA's main goal is to promote Washington area music in general and to achieve national recognition of the region as an important center for live and recorded music. Just as the nation's capital is comprised of a rich cross section of cultures, WAMA's membership embraces all musical styles from classical, bluegrass, go-go, R&B, and reggae, to rock, jazz and folk."
