
Brent Barriere '77 has received the 2011 Leadership in Law Award, presented by New Orleans CityBusiness. Begun in 2005, the award honors fifty attorneys from the greater New Orleans area in four categories based on their accomplishments as attorney and contributions to the community.
Barriere is a partner and the practice coordinator of the commercial litigation group in the New Orleans office of Phelps Dunbar LLP. He represents clients in a variety of commercial disputes and has been named one of Louisiana's top ten litigators by the National Law Journal, rated as a top litigator by Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers (2004-2005), and one of the Best Lawyers in America.
He is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association (Bankruptcy Section, Committee on Business Bankruptcy and Subcommittee on Chapter 11 Reorganization Section and the House of Delegates), the Louisiana State Bar Association House of Delegates and Budget Committee, the Texas State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeal for the Fifth Circuit, and the Tulane Inn of Court.
At Hamilon, Barriere majored in government and history and was a member of sigma phi. He received his doctorate from Tulane University in 1981 where he graduated magna cum laude.
