Austin Briggs, the Hamilton B. Tompkins Professor of English Literature emeritus, attended the XXIII North American James Joyce Conference in Charleston, S.C in June. At the conference he delivered a paper, "Mr., Mrs., Miss, Surnames, Given Names, and Pronouns in Joyce's The Dead," on the panel "Doubling Down on Dubliners" that he organized and chaired. In addition he co-moderated two reading sessions on Ulysses that he co-organized.
