Marianne Janack, the John Stewart Kennedy Chair of Philosophy, gave the opening paper at a conference at Cambridge University's Center for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities on Sept. 12.
The conference, organized by members of Cambridge's Literature faculty, was about Richard Rorty's claims regarding the role of poetry and philosophy in political utopia. Janack's paper concerned Rorty's interpretations of poets and novelists, and raised questions on how Rorty's work ought itself to be interpreted.
