A song by the band Filligar, of which Casey Gibson '09 is a member, will be featured on the season premiere of MTV's "Real World: Hollywood," on Wednesday, April 16, at 10 p.m. EST. The song, "Big Things," is from the band's 2006 release, Succession, I Guess. Filligar is a rock band based out of Chicago whose other members include Gibson's childhood friends Pete, Teddy and Johnny Mathias. The band has been together for about seven years.
Filligar issued its second self-released album last year, The City Tree, which has received favorable reviews from many reputable critics, such as American pop music critic Jim DeRogatis (of the Chicago Sun-Times and Sound Opinions. He praised the album for its "poetic lyrics, keyboard arpeggios and genteel but winning melodies, which hone to the right side of twee (a la Belle & Sebastian at its best) while avoiding the smart 'n' sensitive preppie shtick of indie-rock heroes of the moment Vampire Weekend."
"The Real World: Hollywood" will be the twentieth season of MTV's popular reality television series "The Real World," which focuses on seven diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships.
