Leanne Pasquini '07, Hilary Gamble '07, and Julianne Tylko '10 presented research results at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Chicago, March 25-29.

Leanne Pasquini presented a poster on Raman characterization of gem stones. This work was done in collaboration with Professors Tim Elgren (chemistry), Camille Jones (chemistry), and Dave Bailey (geology).

Hilary Gamble's poster was titled "Probing Halogenase and Dehalogenase Activities in Sol-Gel Encapsulated Peroxidases." Marielle Mathews '09, Kathryn Hansen '07, and Prof. Tim Elgren were co-authors.

Julianne Tylko presented a poster describing the use of silver nano-particles encapsulated in a sol-gel material to enhance spectroscopic properties of small inorganic compounds, such as uranium compounds. This work was done in collaboration with Professors Tim Elgren (chemistry) and Mike McCormick (Biology).

Support for these projects has been provided by grants from the National Science Foundation, Research Corporation and Merck/American Association for the Advancement of Science.
