The Hamilton College Choir will present the musical Bye Bye Birdie on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. in Wellin Hall, Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

With music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Lee Adams, and book by Michael Stewart, Bye Bye Birdie opened on Broadway on April 14, 1960, and ran for 607 performances.

The plot revolves around rock and roll superstar Conrad Birdie and the complications that arise when his agent stages a publicity stunt on The Ed Sullivan Show in which he will kiss one lucky girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio, before he is drafted into the army. Key players in the musical include Albert Peterson, Conrad's agent, who is a very pleasant mild-mannered young man and Albert's faithful secretary, Rose Alvarez, who keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Kim MacAfee is the teenager from Sweet Apple, Ohio, who wins the honor of the kiss. Hugo, a local boy who has just pinned Kim also enters the mix as a jealous boyfriend.

The cast includes Tom Morris as Conrad Birdie, Sarah Ziegler as Kim MacAfee, Julia Berger as Rose Alvarez, Mike O'Leary as Albert Peterson, Dan Leinung as Hugo, and Luke Vaughn and Katherine Hughes as Mr. and Mrs. MacAfee. This fully staged production of Bye Bye Birdie is performed by the Hamilton College Choir, and directed by G. Roberts Kolb.

The performance runs Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m Tickets are $7 adult, $5 senior and students, and $3 Hamilton College students. To reserve tickets or for more information, call the performing arts ticket office at 859-4331 and leave a message.
