Haeng-ja S. Chung
Assistant Professor of Anthropology Haeng-ja Chung was awarded a grant-in-aid for scientific research from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. She is currently a Social Science Research Council and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science postdoctoral fellow at the department of cultural anthropology at the University of Tokyo. With the primary investigator of the grant, University of Tokyo Professor Shinji Yamashita, Chung is analyzing migrants and resident aliens in Japan within the larger frameworks of transnationalism, globalization and migration within Asia. Through data collection, library research and periodic meetings, she is investigating the governmental policies of migration and multiculturalism in Japan.
