An article by Rob Martin, the Sidney Wertimer Professor for Excellence in Advising and Mentoring, was recently published in the Journal of Public Deliberation. It is part of a special issue on Town Meeting Politics in the United States: The Idea and Practice of an American Myth.
Titled “A ‘Peaceable and Orderly Manner’: Town Meetings and other Popular Assemblies in the American Founding,” the article focuses on the evolution of America’s early public citizen forums, as well as the value and downside of such meetings, in the late 18th century.
