Hamilton seniors Casey Green, Cassie Sullivan and Madeline Ware traveled to Memphis for the annual Eta Sigma Phi National Convention March 27-29. The convention was held at Rhodes College, home of the Beta Psi chapter of this national collegiate honors society for students of classical languages.

Ware, a classics and archaeology major, gave a paper titled "Child Sacrifice in Ancient Carthage," which earned an honorable mention for the panel at the convention. Green's paper titled "Social Understanding of the Deaf and the Blind in Ancient Greece" was announced as a selection for the Eta Sigma Phi Panel at the 2010 American Philological Association Meeting. She is a classical languages and history major. Sullivan is a classical languages major.

At the convention the students participated in a trivia contest, voted on national Eta Sigma Phi issues, attended panel discussions, heard student performances of ancient texts, and visited Elvis Presley's Graceland.

The trip was funded by the Kirkland Endowment with support from the Dean of Faculty Office.
