Eight Hamilton seniors were inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication studies honor society, on Nov. 1. The inductees were Adelaide Bailey Harris '09, Rebecca Griffin '09, Meredith Kennedy '09, Stacey Klein '09, Mary-Daphne Kostakopoulos '09, Kara Labs '09, Carly McWilliams '09 and Caroline Sprague '09.

Lambda Pi Eta was founded in 1985 at the University of Arkansas and currently has more than 400 active chapters at colleges and universities across the world.  The
Hamilton College chapter, known as Epsilon Kappa, was established in 1996. Membership in Lambda Pi Eta is based on academic excellence in and commitment to communication studies. The purpose of the society is to recognize, foster and encourage outstanding scholastic achievement in communication.

Requirements for induction at Hamilton include an 88 average for all courses taken at the college and a 90 average or above in the Communication Department. 
The society is rooted in six main goals: recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies; stimulate interest in the field of communication; promote and encourage professional development among communication majors; provide an opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas in the field of communication; establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and students; and, explore options for graduate education in communication studies.
