Assistant Professor of Economics Emily Conover, together with colleagues from Amherst, Colgate, Wesleyan and Vassar, co-organized the inaugural Liberal Arts Colleges Development Economic Conference (LAC-DEV). The conference, created as a place for professors at liberal arts colleges to present their research and discuss teaching strategies in development economics, was hosted by Amherst College on Oct. 4-5.
Nineteen papers were presented and discussed during the conference. Conover presented a research paper titled “Conditional Cash Transfers, Political Participation, and Voting Behavior.” She also chaired a session on political economy.
Future LAC-DEV conferences will be hosted by the other organizing institutions, including Hamilton.
