Austin Briggs, Hamilton B. Tompkins Professor of English emeritus, has published a foreword to Austin Briggs: The Consummate Illustrator, a volume devoted to the life and work of his late father, after whom he is named (San Francisco: Auad Publishing, 2018).
The essay, "Growing Up with Flash Gordon," recalls the years of Professor Briggs' boyhood when his father drew comic strips before changing his career path in 1948 to become one of the most renowned and versatile illustrators in the United States.
