After finishing seventh in the country on points this semester, Hamilton’s Curling Club is headed to the National College Curling Championships, March 13 to 15 in Fargo, N.D.

Team captain Alex Fergusson ’20 and Ryan Wall ’20 have been on the team since their freshman year and competed at nationals previously.  Fellow senior and four-year curler Lily Behm, plus Jennifer Fleming ’22, and Tron Kui ’22 round out the team headed to nationals.

“The spring semester has been pretty strong for Ham Curling,” said Fergusson. The team started off with a fourth-place finish at the Belfast Crash College Bonspiel in January. The next weekend they finished fifth at a tournament in Bridgeport, Conn., and finished second with a split team with RIT in Cape Cod, Mass.

Hamilton and Colgate co-hosted their home tournament at Utica Curling Club in February. Unfortunately, neither the full Hamilton team nor the Hamilton and Yale split team had their best bonspiel so the team was knocked out in pool play.

But ultimately, Fergusson said, Hamilton finished this season seventh in the country on points. “So, we’re excited going into the tournament with a number of top four finishes at tournaments and have had a better season than in the recent past,” he said.

Fergusson said Hamilton has been placed into a pool with college curling heavyweights RPI and Nebraska, and the fourth team Villanova finished the season with some great performances. “We've curled well over the season so are optimistic for some close games and plenty of good curling,” said Fergusson.
