Dan Keplinger, writer and star of the 2000 Academy Award-winning Best Short Subject documentary, King Gimp, will speak at Hamilton on Monday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn. His presentation, "Message is in the Mark," will focus on art as a method of personal expression for the disabled. Keplinger has cerebral palsy. The lecture is sponsored by the Hamilton College Dean of Students, and is in observance of Disability Awareness Month. It is free and open to the public. 

Keplinger is a prolific artist and exhibits his work throughout the country. His exhibitions have included solo art shows at the Phyllis Kind Gallery in New York; eMotion Pictures: "An Exhibition of Orthopedics in Art," at the United Nations in N.Y.; Body and Soul, Osilas Gallery, Bronxville, N.Y; and the UCP Annual Art Show in Towson, Md., among many others. In 2006, Keplinger was a featured artist for the Disabilities and the Arts. He received his Masters of Fine Arts from Towson University.
The documentary King Gimp aired on HBO and the Discovery Channel. Besides an Academy Award, King Gimp also won the 2000 Peabody Award and was nominated for an Emmy. Since King Gimp's success, Keplinger has been writer and subject of two additional documentaries, King's Miracle and King of Arts. In 2001, Keplinger was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Cingular Wireless that ranked number one in a USA Today survey.
