On Monday, Feb. 5, LinkedIn appointed Hamilton alumnus and former Advent Software Inc. executive Dan Nye '88 to the position of chief executive officer. Nye will succeed LinkedIn's founder and CEO Reid Hoffman, who will remain chairman and president of products. Hoffman is confident that Nye is among "the best organizational builders and leaders there is" and is very "excited to work with Dan, both because he is an amazing executive and because (they) share the vision that LinkedIn will be essential for every professional in the world." Under Nye's leadership, LinkedIn intends to double its staff by December.
LinkedIn Corp. is a California-based company that uses business relationships to find jobs, people and service providers worldwide for more than nine million professional members. Although it has existed for less than four years, LinkedIn refers to itself as "the world's largest and most effective business network." The network is utilized by many Fortune 500 executives, adds 100,000 new members weekly and expects to hit $100 million in annual revenue from subscription fees, job listings and advertising this March.
After graduating from Hamilton in 1988, Nye received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Nye then began his career at Proctor and Gamble, before going on to spend over six years in executive positions at a software company called Intuit. During Nye's stay, Intuit's revenue grew exponentially from $40 million per year to over $400 million per year. Nye subsequently left Intuit to work at Advent Software, the investment management industry's leading provider of software and services.
