David Wippman
President David Wippman has co-authored two opinion pieces published by Inside Higher Ed and The Hill.

Written with  Cornell Professor of American Studies Glenn Altschuler, Testing Gen Z appeared in Inside Higher Ed on April 20. The essay addresses how past generations, specifically students at Hamilton and Cornell, have “confronted crises with grit, resilience and a commitment to the greater good” and affirms that today “the vast majority of students we see are looking out for each other, supporting their families and finding ways to serve their communities.”

The Hill published Altschuler and Wippman’s Higher education's 'to-do' list — the consequences of coronavirus on April 26. “For U.S. colleges and universities, COVID-19 may well pose far greater, and in some cases far different, challenges than the Great Recession,” their essay begins. They continue by outlining four of the biggest challenges institutions will face — greater financial aid costs, less state aid, fewer international students, and more spending on health and wellness. The authors caution that, “These challenges do not, of course, exhaust the 'to-do list' for colleges and universities.”
