Photographs by Sylvia de Swaan, lecturer in art, appeared recently in two internationally renowned photography journals.
Private, an international review of black and white photographs and texts, featured a selection of 12 of de Swaan's images in a recent issue. The theme of the issue was "Night." de Swaan said the images were "…culled from several projects of the past 15 years--all representing my ongoing preoccupation with transience, with memory, with personal history, with the terrors and anxieties of living in today's world, and with the mystery of darkness and night."
EXIT, a Madrid-based quarterly of photography and writing included a de Swaan photograph in its issue #19, titled "Journeys." The works consisted of explorations of the theme by various photographers and writers, including Wim Wenders, Alec Soth, Hamish Fulton and Marina Abramovic, among others.
