Professor of Religious Studies Brent Plate is serving as the executive director of the Association of Public Religion and Intellectual Life (APRIL). The 501(c)(3) organization traces its roots back to 1935 and since 1990 has been the owner and has had editorial control of CrossCurrents.
Plate is also now the editor of CrossCurrents, the 70-year-old journal he describes as having “published most of the major religious thinkers in the US and Europe since 1950.”
In addition, as incoming director of APRIL, Plate spearheaded the launch of the organization’s new website, which includes the online magazine The Commons.
Plate also appeared in Floating Ideas: How the Erie Canal Helped Shape America, produced by local PBS station WCNY-TV (Syracuse, N.Y.). The documentary premiered on June 29; WCNY-TV will re-air the program on Sunday, July 4, at 1 p.m.
