Eugene Domack, the J. W. Johnson Family Professor of Environmental Studies, will present "The Polar Regions: Climate of Extremes on a Changing Planet," Monday, June 23, at 6 p.m. at the Uptown Theater at 2014 Genesee St. in Utica. Domack's presentation is the first of three free events scheduled to raise environmental awareness in the Mohawk Valley. The Utica Rome Green Expo has partnered with Utica Monday Nite to develop these programs.

Domack has recently been awarded a National Science Foundation grant that will fund an international, multi-year, collaborative research project, "Collaborative Research in IPY: Abrupt Environmental Change in the Larsen Ice Shelf System, a Multidisciplinary Approach - Marine and Quaternary Geosciences." Domack will serve as chief scientist on this project which will include several expeditions to Antarctica and will allow him and a team of fellow researchers to address the changes occurring in the Antarctic Peninsula region as a consequence of the abrupt collapse of the Larsen Ice Shelf System.
