Professor of Anthropology Doug Raybeck will kick off this semester's Faculty Lecture Series with a talk titled, "The Yang, The Yin, The Whole Damned Thing," on Friday, Sept., 26, at 4:10 p.m. in the Red Pit, KJ. Reception immediately following at Café Opus. Sponsored by The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty.

Raybeck explains his lecture: "The history of the sciences, social sciences and humanities is marked by disputes of the 'I'm right you're wrong ... and probably a malicious dunderhead' variety.  I want to argue that there is greater utility in seeking complimentarity rather than conflict in our search for answers.  I will describe a methodology for achieving this end, as well as some, often humorous, examples of errors that can occur when conflict models are preferred.  Generally, there should be something to mildly offend nearly everyone (starting with this split infinitive)."
