“It is strongly recommended that you bring raincoats!” So began the memo about the Niagara Falls trip on which five Hamilton international students recently embarked. Sponsored by the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium, the weekend-long tour was organized for international students staying on their respective campuses this summer.
Students from Union, Colgate, Skidmore, St. Lawrence, Hobart William-Smith and Hamilton made their first stop on Saturday, July 15, at Niagara Falls Park. Following lunch, the group experienced the traditional dousing on the Maid of the Mist boat tour around the falls. The aforementioned raincoats would have been of little help against the “mist” they experienced on the boat.
“This trip was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life,” said rising Hamilton junior Sanju Koirala. “I also met international students from so many different countries. I think we all shared a bond of being away from home which took our excitement of experiencing new things to a whole new level.”
The group visited Whirlpool State Park near Niagara Falls and the Niagara Power Project Visitors Center & Power Vista near Lewiston as well.
“It was a beautiful and relaxing trip, and I enjoyed every bit of it. I feel very grateful to have had this opportunity to explore such a magnificent place and meet other international students from other schools,” said Lilly Yangchen.
