Hamilton College will host its eighth annual gospel choir workshop and concert in the chapel on Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11. This free two-day event is open to all members of the community who would like to experience what gospel can do for the spirit, regardless of any previous experience. Members of all faiths and musical abilities are encouraged to attend.
The workshop will be led by the choral direction of Rev. Kirk Hatcher of Florida and piano accompaniment of Ed "Chief" Menifee of Georgia. Both of these accomplished musicians have been steeped in the gospel music of the black church tradition. The two travel annually to various schools throughout the country to inspire people of all backgrounds with the power of music. Former Dean Karen Green, vice president for student affairs/dean of students at Muhlenberg College, will attend and is bringing students from Mulhenberg to participate in the concert.
The first workshop rehearsal will commence on Friday, November 10 at 4 p.m. in the Hamilton College Chapel. It will break at 6 p.m., and continue from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The second rehearsal will convene on Saturday, November 11 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Gospel Celebration performance will be on Saturday at 7 p.m in the Chapel, and all are welcome to attend. For more information please contact Jeff McArn, the Hamilton College Chaplain at (315) 859-4130, or by email at jmcarn@hamilton.edu.
