Eldevik reviews a book by German scholar Sebastian Freudenberg (Trado atque Dono: Die frühmitteralterliche private Grundherrschaft in Ostfraknken im Spiegel der Traditionsurkunden der Klöster Lorsch und Fulda, 750 bis 900 [Stuttgart, 2013]).
Freudenberg uses an innovative new statistical and textual analysis model to examine the administrative and economic structure of early medieval estates donated to two large monastic foundations during the Carolingian period.
