A book review by Assistant Professor of History John Eldevik has been published in the May issue of The German Studies Review. Eldevik reviewed a new monograph by University of Chicago medievalist Jonathan Lyon, Princely Brothers and Sisters: The Sibling Bond in German Politics, 1100-1250 (Cornell UP, 2013) which offers a strikingly original approach to understanding medieval politics by focusing on the internal family dynamics of the Empire's high nobility, particularly within the sibling groups that produced candidates for imperial office.
