Hamilton College graduate David Nathans, a leader in organizing the "Hamilton Collects" exhibition series and a strong proponent of the visual arts at Hamilton, has been selected as interim director of the Emerson Gallery for the 2002-2003 academic year.  Nathans brings to this role an impressive educational background in business and the arts coupled with significant professional experience in the museum world.

Nathans takes responsibility for the daily operation of the Emerson Gallery from William Salzillo, who will return to the classroom and the studio, but who will direct future "Hamilton Collects" exhibitions for the next two years.  Hamilton continues its search for a permanent director.

With an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, coursework in the Early American Culture Masters Program at the Dupont Winterthur Museum, and a B.A. in history from Hamilton College, Nathans has straddled the worlds of art and business.  He has held positions with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia; Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Conn.; The Art Museum at Princeton University and Artworks in Princeton and Trenton, N.J.  Nathans has served on the Committee on the Visual Arts for Hamilton College for the last 18 years.

Nathans has also held senior marketing management positions at Merrill Lynch Private Client in Princeton, N.J., and at American International Group in New York.  His experience in sales and marketing also includes positions at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in New York and Princeton Capital Management.   He now owns and is principal of his own marketing and business development consulting firm, The Sydney Company.

Nathans has already developed a full schedule of exhibitions for the 2002-2003 academic year and is working with Salzillo on the development of the next "Hamilton Collects" exhibition for late 2003, preliminarily titled "Hamilton Collects II - Post-War American."
