Visiting Assistant Professor of Africana Studies Crystal Leigh Endsley was a panel presenter on March 31 at an international hip-hop studies conference at New York University. She discussed emerging East African hip-hop performance as a site of political participation and transformation as part of a panel focused on hip hop culture and youth in the era of Neoliberal globalization.

The conference, “Show & Prove: The Tensions, Contradictions, and Possibilities of Hip Hop Studies,” was hosted by the Tisch School of Performance and highlighted work in the field by academics and artists.  The conference was attended by scholars focused on the multitude of representations found in hip-hop that provide both a space of agency and specific challenges for the educator and practitioner.
