Director and Curator of Special Collections and Archives Christian Goodwillie and Professor of Religious Studies S.B. Rodriguez-Plate recently attended the New York State History Conference in Albany. Goodwillie moderated a panel titled “Preparing for the 200 Year Anniversary of the Erie Canal in Upstate New York,” on which Rodriguez-Plate presented.
The theme of this year’s conference was “Constructing the Empire State: Innovation, Environment, and Imagination in New York History.” According to a conference announcement, it focused on “New York’s groundbreaking contributions to transportation, commerce, and industry, while also exploring the environmental and cultural challenges that accompany rapid development.” This year’s sessions centered on the upcoming Erie Canal bicentennial.
The goal of the annual conference is “to provide an inclusive and engaging forum in which historians, educators, museum professionals, archivists, and librarians can share research and resources on the practice.” It was presented by the New York State Museum, Library, Archives, and Archives Partnership Trust; the Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist University; and the Cooperstown Graduate Program at SUNY Oneonta.
