 Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz

Professor of Comparative Literature and Creative Writing Emerita Nancy Sorkin Rabinowitz recently published an article on Euripides’ Iphigenia among the Taurians. The article appears in the two-volume Brill’s Companion to Euripides (2020).

In the essay, Rabinowitz discusses the heroic friends Orestes and Pylades, asking whether they were just friends or if they were also lovers.

She said that previous treatments have discussed the pair, but without analyzing the play as a whole. Rabinowitz brings together four foci — genre, ritual, Orestes-Pylades, and Iphigeneia — via an extensive consideration of initiation.
