An expert on the political economy of the European Union, Leila Talani, will present "The Dollar, the Euro, and the Future of European Integration" on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in Fillius Events Barn at Hamilton College. Alan Cafruny, Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs and Didar Erdinc, visiting associate professor of economics, will serve as commentators at the lecture. This event is free and open to the public.
Author of "European Political Economy: Political Science Perspectives" (Ashgate, 2004), Talani is also a research associate at the European Institute at the London School of Economics and a faculty member of the department of European studies at the University of Bath, UK. Talani held the position of associate expert for the United Nations Regional Office for Drug Control and Crime Prevention prior to joining the University of Bath. She was based in Cairo, working on illegal migration from the Middle East and northern Africa to EU countries.
The Levitt Center for Public Affairs will also be hosting several other speakers this spring including Donald Kettl, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute and a University of Pennsylvania professor of political science. His presentation, "The Next Government of the United States: Strategies for 21st Century Government." will be held on Monday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn. Kettl is executive director of the Century Foundation's Project on Federalism and Homeland Security and also academic coordinator of the Government Performance Project.
Columbia University professor and Nobel Laureate Joseph E. Stiglitz will speak on Friday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in the Hamilton Chapel.
Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the director of the Congressional Budget Office and former chief economist for the President's Council of Economic Advisors, will speak to the Hamilton community about the U.S. budget on Monday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. in Hamilton's Chapel.
Dinesh D'Souza, Robert and Karen Rishwain Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, will speak on Wednesday, April 20, at 8 p.m. in the Hamilton Chapel. D'Souza was senior domestic policy analyst at the White House during the Reagan Administration from 1987-1988 and is the author of numerous books.
