Research Vessel for LMG04-04
The Gould is an ice strengthened vessel launched in 1998 and built by Edison Chouest Offshore. It is leased to the National Science Foundation, and its primary mission is to support resupply and marine research in the Antarctic Peninsula region. It is 230' long with two Caterpillar Diesel engines of combined 4575 horsepower. It is equipped with state of the art marine research instruments and berths 20 scientists and 12 crew. This is the third cruise that we will have conducted on the Gould, the first was the maiden voyage of the Gould in 1998 (shown here in support of Ocean Drilling Leg 198 in the Palmer Deep).
