Austin Briggs, the Hamilton B. Tompkins Professor of English Literature Emeritus, recently presented a plenary address at the opening session of the Ezra Pound International Conference (EPIC) at the University of Edinburgh.
In “My Day with E.P.: 8 June 1969, Hamilton College,” Briggs discussed his experience hosting Pound, a 1905 graduate of Hamilton, when the poet returned to his alma mater for a surprise visit.
Briggs also published a letter in the June 9 issue of The Times Literary Supplement. The letter concerns the deep admiration shared by Marcel Proust and James Joyce for the painting “View of Delft,” by 17th-century Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer.
