Fiction writer and essayist Roxane Gay will read from her work on Monday, March 10, at 8 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn.  Gay is an assistant professor of English at Eastern Illinois University.  The event is sponsored by the English and Creative Writing department, and is free and open to the public.

Gay’s writing has appeared in Best American Short Stories 2012, Best Sex Writing 2012, Bookforum, The Los Angeles Times, The Rumpus and Salon, among others. She is the co-editor of PANK, a literary magazine focusing on emerging and experimental poetry and prose, and essays editor for The Rumpus, an online liberal-arts journal featuring essays, reviews, and interviews along with music, film, poetry, and comics.

Gay’s first book, Ayiti (2011), is a collection of fiction and nonfiction about the Haitian diaspora experience. Her novel, An Untamed State, will be published by Grove Atlantic, and her essay collection, Bad Feminist, will be published by Harper Perennial, both in 2014.
