HamTrek, the Hamilton College Community’s first spring sprint triathlon, will be held on Class and Charter Day, Friday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. The event is a way for the college community to get together for some fun competition between students, faculty, staff, alumni, family and administration. HamTrek is sponsored by the President’s Office, Pepsi Co., the Athletic Department, Intramural Sports and Student Activities.

Participants may compete as individuals or as part of a team. Teams are composed of three people in any ratio of faculty, staff, students, alumni, family and administration. Prizes will be awarded to the top six female and top six male individuals, as well as the top female, male and coed teams. There will also be a prize for the best themed team as represented by their outfits. So far 140 participants have signed up, all competing as either individuals or as part of a three person team.

As a sprint triathlon the distances will be shortened from normal triathlon distances to 525 yds of swimming (21 lengths in the pool), 9 miles of on-road biking (two times around the Griffin Road loop and 5k of cross-country running (the cross-country course). The whole event will take place on the Hamilton College campus and surrounding roads. HamTrek will start in Bristol Pool and finish in the field behind the Chemistry Building. At the finish line there will be food catered by Bon Appetit, as well as music and raffles. All are encouraged to come cheer on the competitors.
