Norman Bowie
Norman Bowie, the Elmer Anderson Chair in Corporate Responsibility and Strategic Management/Organization at the University of Minnesota, will present "Economics: Friend or Foe of Ethics?" on Monday, April 20, at 4:15 p.m. in the Science Center's Kennedy Auditorium. The lecture is co-sponsored by the Philosophy Department. It is free and open to the public. 

Bowie was a member of Hamilton's Philosophy Department and a tenured professor on the Hill in the early and mid 1970's. At that time, he was also executive director of the American Philosophical Association and the national office was housed in Courtyard North.

Bowie has expertise in the fields of corporate responsibility, ethics, morality of markets and sustainability. In addition to his current research in the area of corporate governance, he is also the co-editor of Guide to Business Ethics, currently in its 6th edition. Bowie has published in many scholarly journals including his articles "Sweatshops and Respect for Persons" and "Privacy Rights on the Internet" both published in Business Ethics Quarterly (2003). He currently teaches graduate courses in ethics and political philosophy, with a special emphasis on business ethics, at the University of Minnesota.
