Theo Gakwaya, former minister of interior in post-genocide Rwanda, will give a lecture titled "The Rwanda Genocide: Before, During, and After," on Monday, September 18, at 4:15 p.m. in the Science Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
A former judge in the Supreme Court of Rwanda, Theo Gakwaya actively undertook the task of helping save lives during the horrible nights of the Rwandan Genocide. He is himself a survivor of the Genocide. This led to his being appointed as Minister of Interior in President Kagame's post-genocide government. In disagreement with Kagame's policies, he had to flee the country and is now in exile here in the U.S.
This event is sponsored by the Hamilton College French department and co-sponsored by the West Indian and African Association (WIAA).
