Hamilton's 2007-08 Performing Arts season will continue in February with the first of three special events planned for the spring semester. All events will take place in Wellin Hall at the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.
A Contemporary Voices and Visions performance by Highland Heath and Holler, Celtic's Music's Voyage to Appalachia, will kick off the semester on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. In a celebration of the Scottish and Irish musical traditions that inspired the rich heritage of Southern Appalachia, Highland Heath and Holler brings to life the culture, stories and music of American folklore. The group features Alasdair Fraser, Martin Hayes and Bruce Molsky on the fiddle; Natalie Haas on the cello, and Dennis Cahill on guitar. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $5 for Hamilton students.
The Classical Connections series brings the Philadelphia Brass to Wellin Hall on Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m. From the stage of the Royal Albert Hall to the heights of the Bolivian Andes, the Philadelphia Brass has delighted audiences with virtuosity, technical brilliance and artistry. The ensemble performs the finest brass literature of all styles and periods. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $5 for Hamilton students.
The performing arts season concludes with an appearance by virtuoso guitarist Russell Malone on Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m. Malone brings new meaning to the term versatility, whether he's playing down-home, gut bucket blues or a lush, melodic ballad. Malone's musical journey began in his church, continued with the study of the blues and country sounds of his native Georgia, and drew insights from some of jazz's great mentors. Tickets cost $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $5 for Hamilton College students.
