The 3rd Annual Gay-Straight Student Pride Rally at Hamilton College will be held Thursday, April 15, at 12 p.m. on Martin's Way near the Beinecke Student Activities Village.
Now in its third year, the Pride Rally promotes a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship between lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and heterosexual people. The event will bring together Hamilton students, faculty and staff to raise awareness for important issues that affect living and learning at the college.
Thursday's rally is sponsored by Hamilton College's gay-straight student group, Rainbow Alliance, and supported by Student Assembly and the Dean of Students Office. The theme of this year's Pride Rally is "The Fight for Equal Rights: Allies Wanted," to which a group of students, faculty and staff will speak.
The Rainbow Alliance was established to provide mutual support for LGBT people at Hamilton College. It acts as an avenue of expression for any Hamilton student who wishes to become more vocal and educated about issues affecting gays, lesbians and bisexuals. Each year the Rainbow Alliance sponsors campuswide parties, open houses, movies and open mikes. Lectures and workshops are selected to educate the college community and encourage greater sensitivity to the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people on campus.
