
Professor of Classics Barbara Gold attended the annual meeting of the American Philology Association on Jan. 5-8 in Montreal. She presented a paper ("Institutional Pressures: The View from the Dean's Office") at a panel titled "Age-Discrimination and the Classics Job Market" sponsored by the APA Committee on Professional Matters and on the Status of Women and Minority Groups.
She also, as the APA's vice president for outreach, oversaw the meetings, panels and performances of the three committees under her division (classical tradition, performance and outreach); chaired a meeting of chairs of Classics departments of Liberal Arts Colleges, a group which she founded four years ago; hosted meetings of the editorial board of the American Journal of Philology of which she is the editor, attended an annual lunch for journal editors, and attended the meetings of the APA board of directors.
