Barbara Gold, the Edward North Professor of Classics, published an article titled “Simone Weil: Receiving the Iliad” in Women Classical Scholars: Unsealing the Fountain from the Renaissance to Jacqueline de Romilly.
Gold’s article is a discussion of Weil’s 1939 essay “The Iliad, or, The Poem of Force.” Gold wrote that the central contention in the article “is that this influential essay is informed by Simone Weil’s identity as a woman author who is writing about war.”
Published by Oxford University Press, Women Classical Scholars was edited by Rosie Wyles of the University of Kent and Edith Hall of King’s College London.
