
The Hamilton College Government Department will sponsor a panel discussion about the 2008 election and the Obama presidency on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel. The panel will feature four distinguished Hamilton alumni, and will be followed by a question and answer period. It is free and open to the public.
Edward Walker '62, former U.S. Ambassador and former president of the Middle East Institute, is the Christian A. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Global Political Theory. Before assuming the presidency of the Middle East Institute, he worked with Colin Powell in the new Bush Administration as assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs, a position Walker had previously held under Madeleine Albright during the second Clinton administration. During that time he helped initiate and negotiate U.S. policy toward Iraq and engaged in recalibrating U.S. policies toward Iran and the Middle East Peace Process.
Alicia Davis '97 joined Target Point Consulting from the Republican National Committee where she most recently served as regional political director. Prior to returning to the Republican National Committee, she served as the deputy assistant secretary for External Affairs and Communications at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Marc Elias '90, a partner in Perkins Coie law firm, specializes in representing public elected officials, candidates, parties, corporations and PACs in connection with campaign finance, ethics and white-collar criminal defense matters. His clients include the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and numerous U.S. senators, representatives and governors and their campaigns. In 2004 he served as general counsel to the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.
Frank Vlossak '89 is a principal at Williams and Jensen, a leading government affairs law firm. His practice focuses on legislative issues concerning energy, environment, natural resources and financial services. Prior to joining Williams and Jensen, he worked for Representative Merrill Cook (R-UT) as a legislative assistant handling transportation and health care issues and earlier for Representative Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY). He is a member of the Federalist Society and the Republican National Lawyers Association and is currently teaching a course at Hamilton on lobbying with George Baker Jr '74.
