The Richard W. Couper Press published the first issue of American Communal Societies Quarterly (ACSQ) in January 2007. The Couper Press, the publishing arm of the Hamilton College Burke Library, will publish the ACSQ in January, April, July, and October of every year.

The Couper Press was created in honor of the late Richard W. Couper '44. Couper was an alumnus and life trustee of Hamilton and a benefactor of the Burke Library. Couper served as president and CEO of the New York Public Library, president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, and deputy commissioner of higher education of the New York State Education Department.

The ACSQ is a periodical devoted to showcasing the library's collection of scholarship regarding communal societies. The primary issue includes "The Road From Harmony" by Eileen Aiken English, the reprinted manuscript of "Mother's Last Visit to Watervliet" with an introduction by David Newell, and "A Sampling of Rare Shaker Broadsides at Hamilton College Library" by Christian Goodwillie.

The Couper Press will also be publishing a monographic series. The first has been accepted and will come out later in 2007. It is titled, Visiting the Shakers: Watervliet, New Lebanon, Hancock, and Tyringham,1778-1849, edited by Glendyne R. Wergland.
