In honor of the 6th annual Jazz Appreciation month, a national event sponsored mainly by the Herb Alpert Foundation, Hamilton is hosting a series of jazz performances.
On Wednesday, April 11, visiting pianist, composer, and jazz artist Onaje Allan Gumbs will present two workshops in Schambach 108. From 12 to 1 p.m., he will host a brownbag lunch on "The soloist's art and the art of accompanying", and later will discuss "Making a living in the current music scene" over Southwestern munchies from 4 to 5 p.m. To jazz up the evening, Gumbs will play alongside Doc Woods on bass, Monk Rowe on saxophone and Evan Duchene on drums at 9 p.m. in the Little Pub.The Hamilton Jazz Combo will perform again in the Little Pub on Wednesday April 18, Ravi Coltrane will play Wellin Hall on Friday April 20, and the festivities will wrap up with a concert by the Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble in Wellin Hall on Wednesday April 25.
