The assembly, which includes the presentation of academic awards, begins at7:30 p.m. in Wellin Hall of the Schambach Center for Music and Performing Arts.It is open to the public.
Members of the first-year class were drawn from a record number ofapplications, 4,107. Only 42% of the applicants for the Class of 2001 wereoffered admission to the college, and for the first time in school history,there are more women than men in the class. Hamilton was an all-male collegeuntil joining with all-female Kirkland College in 1978.
In addition, the class includes 15 high school valedictorians, sevensalutatorians and 10 students who are national merit finalists. Multiculturalstudents comprise 10% of the class, an increase of two percentage points fromthe previous two classes. An additional 3% of the class hails from countriesoutside the United States.

Spring semester classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 19, and conclude on MayFriday, 8, 1988. Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 24.
