Hamilton College will hosta Men of Color Conference on Saturday, Jan. 31, beginning at 11:30 a.m., in theFillius Events Barn, Beinecke Student Activities Village. The event is part ofthe celebrations for Black History Month and is open and free to the public.

Guest speaker Dwayne Washington will deliver the lecture "How Are We GivingBack to Our Community?" Washington is a former Syracuse University starbasketball guard who came into prominence during the mid-1980s. He played withthe New Jersey Nets in the National Basketball Association for three years,followed by two seasons in the Continental Basketball Association.

An injury to Washington's ankle signaled the end of his professional career,but real tragedy struck in 1995 when he became severely ill and almost diedfrom a brain tumor. His near-death experience caused Washington to reevaluatehis life and today he is thankful for the changes that he made. Washingtonreturned to school to complete his education, and today he is pursuing a careeras a college basketball coach.

The annual conference attracts participants from many area colleges anduniversities.
