Throughout the year, Hamilton plays host to a broad spectrum of approximately 200 speakers, from a former U.S. vice president to an organic farmer, on myriad topics, from film direction to congressional budgets. As the academic year comes to a close, a review of a list of some of these visitors highlights the diversity of disciplines, views and interests represented on campus as well as the opportunities afforded our students and our community.
A few of the memorable presentations included:
- a debate on China's future between a U.S. ambassador and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace director,
- a bioethicist's presentation on physicians' treatment of individuals born with "socially-challenging bodies,"
- the Lost Boys of Sudan's chronicle of their flight and resettlement,
- a discussion of ethics delivered by a former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission,
- "The Case for Conservatism" made by the Nation Review Online editor-at-large,
- a snapshot of the impact of immigration on the U.S. by a New York Times writer
We are honored to conclude this year with a commencement address by the president of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass and a baccalaureate address by Bennett College president Johnnetta Betsch Cole.
