Monk Rowe, Joe Williams Director of the Jazz Archive, contributed to two National Public Radio programs. "The Kid from Red Bank: 100 Years of the Basie Beat" and "The Count Basie Centennial Radio Project" celebrated what would be the 100th birthday of jazz legend Count Basie. Both the Hamilton College Jazz Archive and Rowe are cited for contributions to the programs.

"The Kid from Red Bank" was featured on NPR's weekly show, "Riverwalk, Live from the Landing," starring the Jim Cullum Jazz Band. "Riverwalk" celebrates the lives and music of America's top jazz musicians, past and present. Each week, the band salutes jazz pioneers in live performances and fascinating stories that bring to life remarkable moments in the history of jazz. The band showcased Hamilton honorary degree recipients Joe Williams, Clark Terry and Harry "Sweets" Edison. This show will broadcast audio clips from videotaped interviews between Basie and his protégé, Frank Foster. "The Kid from Red Bank" aired the week of April 15 and can be heard on the Web, www.riverwalk.org.

"The Count Basie Centennial Radio Project" was produced by Peabody Award-winner Jim Luce and will air later this month. Rowe led Luce to a number of recordings that featured Basie with several jazz greats, including Williams and former Hamilton artist-in-residence Foster.
