Seventy Hamilton students and staff members participated in America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk on Saturday, March 3, at Utica College. These volunteers joined 8,000 others in walking and running between three and five miles. The annual event raises money and awareness for the American Heart Association and its fight against heart disease and stroke. Hamilton has fielded a team for many years.
Hamilton team organizers Linda Michels and Kelly Wallton of the Dean of Faculty's office were able to turn in more than $3300 raised by Hamilton's dedicated participants.
The American Heart Association has helped protect people of all ages and ethnicities from the dangers of heart disease and stroke since 1924. Heart disease and stroke are respectively the No. 1 and No.3 killers of Americans, and claim more than 949,000 lives every year. Money raised from events like America's Greatest Heart Run and Walk contributes to the more than $360 million that the American Heart Association is able to spend on research, professional and public education, and advocacy every year.
